About

Built on verified
grade data

freegpacalculator.io is a free, browser-based GPA calculator suite. Every scale, formula, and grade-point mapping has a verifiable source.

Why we built it

The problem with
most GPA tools

Most GPA calculators online use grade-point mappings sourced from nowhere in particular — rounded numbers that vary from site to site, with no citation you can check. A student who needs an accurate number for a grad school application or a scholarship review has no way to know whether the tool they're using is correct.

We built freegpacalculator.io to fix that. Every grade-point value in every calculator here comes from a documented, publicly verifiable source. Where two authoritative sources disagree, we note it. Where no authoritative source exists (some international scales, some professional school configurations), we don't publish a number.

All calculations run in your browser. Nothing you enter — not your grades, not your course names, not your GPA — ever leaves your device.

Data standard

How we verify
scales

Primary source — CollegeBoard BigFuture 4.0 scale. The grade-to-GPA-point mapping used across all our calculators (A+ = 4.0, A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B− = 2.7 … F = 0.0) matches the CollegeBoard BigFuture published standard. This is the same mapping used in NCES IPEDS institutional data and reported by most US colleges to standardized data services.

Five scales only. We publish calculators for five documented scales: 4.0, 4.33, 5.0, 7.0 (Australian), and 10.0 (Indian UGC). We have not published a 6.0 or 12.0 scale because we could not find documented institutional use for either. If we can't verify it, we don't include it.

No proportional formulas for scale conversion. Converting between scales by dividing your GPA by the scale maximum gives mathematically wrong results. We use letter-grade table lookup instead — the same method used by credential evaluation services like WES and ECE.

International grades. Our international GPA converter uses WES (World Education Services) grade equivalency tables as its primary source. Every conversion that lacks a verifiable WES or equivalent source is labeled "research pending" and not published.

Professional school calculators. AMCAS, LSAC, AADSAS, PharmCAS, CASPA, and NursingCAS each publish their GPA calculation methodology publicly. Our professional school calculators mirror those published methodologies. Where the methodology is ambiguous, we note it.

Privacy

Your data stays
in your browser

Every GPA calculator on this site runs entirely in your browser using client-side JavaScript. No grades, course names, credit hours, or GPA values are ever transmitted to any server.

Where a calculator saves your entries between sessions ("save and restore"), it uses your browser's localStorage API — a key/value store that stays on your device and is never sent anywhere. Clearing your browser's site data removes it completely.

This site may display third-party advertisements (such as Google AdSense). Ad networks may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other sites. We do not sell your personal information. See our full Privacy Policy for details, including how to opt out of personalised ads.
